Nagarahole National Park, also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is a pristine wilderness located in Karnataka, India. Nestled in the heart of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a treasure trove of biodiversity, offering a captivating blend of dense forests, rolling hills, and serene rivers. The Nagarahole National Park is spread over the districts of Mysore and Kodagu in Karnataka. It was declared as the 37th Tiger Reserve of India in 1999. It is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It acts as a connecting corridor for tigers and elephants to the forests of the Western Ghats and is a major hub for both Project Tiger and Project Elephant Spanning over 640 square kilometres, Nagarahole is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. The park boasts a rich population of Indian elephants, tigers, leopards, and sloth bears. It’s also a bird watcher’s delight, with over 270 species of birds, including the majestic Malabar trogon and the endangered Oriental white-backed vulture. ನಾಗರಹೊಳೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನ (ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನ) ಇದು ಭಾರತ ದೇಶದ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಅರಣ್ಯ. ನೀಲಗಿರಿ ಜೀವವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಮೀಸಲು ಹೃದಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ಈ ಯುನೆಸ್ಕೋ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ತಾಣವು ಜೀವ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆಯ ನಿಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಕಾಡುಗಳು, ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ ನದಿಗಳ ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಸಂಗಮವಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾಗರಹೊಳೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮೈಸೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಡಗು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು 1999 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ 37ನೇ ಹುಲಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶವೆಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ನೀಲಗಿರಿ ಜೀವವೈವಿಧ್ಯ ಮೀಸಲಿನ ಅವಿಭಾಜ್ಯ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಕಾಡುಗಳಿಗೆ ಹುಲಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಆನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವ ಕಾರಿಡಾರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಜೆಕ್ಟ್ ಟೈಗರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಜೆಕ್ಟ್ ಎಲಿಫೆಂಟ್ ಎರಡಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಸುಮಾರು 640 ಚದರ ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್‌ಗಳಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸಿರುವ ನಾಗರಹೊಳೆ ನಂಬಲಾಗದ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಸಸ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೆ/ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಕರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವರ್ಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಉದ್ಯಾನವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಆನೆಗಳು, ಹುಲಿಗಳು, ಚಿರತೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕರಡಿಗಳು ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿವೆ. ಭವ್ಯವಾದ ಮಲಬಾರ್ ಟ್ರೋಗನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅಳಿವಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಓರಿಯೆಂಟಲ್ ಬಿಳಿ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ರಣಹದ್ದು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ 270 ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇದು ಪಕ್ಷಿ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೂ ಸಂತೋಷದ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಉದ್ಯಾನವನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಹರಿಯುವ ಕಬಿನಿ ನದಿಯು ತನ್ನ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಜೀವನಾಡಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಗೆ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

ನಾಗರಹೊಳೆ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಫಾರಿ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಮರೆಯಲಾಗದ ಅನುಭವ. ಕಬಿನಿಯ ಹಿನ್ನೀರಿನ ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಜೀಪ್ ಸಫಾರಿ ಅಥವಾ ದೋಣಿ ವಿಹಾರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದಲ್ಲಿ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅವುಗಳ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಆವಾಸಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶವು ರೋಮಾಂಚನಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆನೆಗಳ ಹಿಂಡು ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಗಿಡಗಂಟೆಗಳಿಂದ ಗುಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಹೊರಬರುವ ಹುಲಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳಾಗಿ ಮೈನವಿರೇಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
