Chamundipada, located at the foothills of Chamundi Hill (Chamundi Betta) in Mysuru, is a significant spot for both devotees and visitors seeking to explore the cultural and spiritual essence of the region. Named after Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of the Chamundi Hill, this area serves as the starting point for many pilgrims and tourists embarking on their journey to the renowned Chamundeshwari Temple at the summit. Chamundipada is bustling with activity, especially during festivals like Dasara, when thousands of devotees gather to pay their respects to the goddess. The area is known for its vibrant atmosphere, with stalls selling flowers, fruits, incense, and other offerings for worship. The sight of devotees preparing for the climb creates a sense of community and devotion that resonates deeply with visitors. The highlight of Chamundipada is the stone staircase. leading to the temple. The stone staircase was constructed by Doddadevaraja Wadiyar and  flight of 1,008 steps, carved into the hill, provides a spiritual experience for those who undertake the climb. Along the way, pilgrims encounter sacred shrines and landmarks, including the famous Nandi statue, adding to the journey’s religious significance. The base of the hill also offers modern conveniences for visitors, including parking facilities, shops, and eateries serving local delicacies. For those unable to climb, a well-maintained road allows vehicles to reach the temple at the top.

ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತಪ್ಪಲಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚಾಮುಂಡಿಪಾದವು ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಸಾರವನ್ನು  ಬಯಸುವ ಭಕ್ತರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂದರ್ಶಕರಿಗೆ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಅಧಿದೇವತೆಯಾದ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಅನೇಕ ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೇ ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ದಸರಾದಂತಹ ಹಬ್ಬ ಹರಿದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲದೇ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಭಕ್ತರು/ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ದೇವಿಯ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವವಾಗ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲಿನ ಬಳಿ ಬಿರುಸಿನ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೂವುಗಳು, ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳು, ಧೂಪ ದ್ರವ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪೂಜಾ ಸಾಮಾಗ್ರಿಗಳು ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಚಾಮುಂಡಿಪಾದದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ ದೊಡ್ಡದೇವರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರ್ ರವರು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿರುವ ಸುಮಾರು 1008 ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳು ಚಾರಣವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವವರಿಗೆ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಾರಣದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ದೊಡ್ಡನಂದಿ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಪವಿತ್ರ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಗ್ಗುರುತುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಪಯಣದ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತಪ್ಪಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಗೆ ಪಾರ್ಕಿಂಗ್ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳು, ಅಂಗಡಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುವ ತಿನಿಸುಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಸೌಕರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಹತ್ತಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದವರಿಗೆ ಸುಸಜ್ಜಿತ ರಸ್ತೆಯು ವಾಹನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ತೆರಳಲು ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.
