Prasanna Parvathi with Shri Gargeshwara Swamy Temple, Taluk:T. Narasipura, District: Mysuru

The Gargeshwari Temple in a village of the same name is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Gargeshwara. The deity is represented by a naturally formed Spatika Linga, and it is believed that the Linga has the combined power of Shiva and his consort Parvati. Consequently, Lord Gargeshwara is worshipped as Ardhanareeshwara, symbolizing the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, or Shiva and Shakti. There are many incredible facts and myths associated with the temple. One such belief is that the Shiva Linga in the sanctum sanctorum grows in size year on year. The temple is also renowned for its association with Lord Ganesha, who is said to play a unique role in determining whether devotees’ wishes will be fulfilled, adding to the temple’s mystique. There is a temple to Ganesha where the elephant-headed God is worshipped as Yantra Prashne Ganapathy or Yantrodharaka Maha Ganapathy. It is believed that this Ganesha idol was installed in the temple by Adi Shankaracharya. What is unique about this Ganesha idol is that devotees believe that the idol can tell them whether their wishes will come true or not. After making their wish and praying to Ganesha, a devotee will try to lift the Ganesha idol which weighs about 5 to 6 kilograms. If the devotee can do so, then it is a divine indication that their wish will be granted. If the devotee fails to lift the Ganesha idol, the indication is that their wish will not be granted. The Yantra Prashne Ganapathy is one of the main factors for the popularity of the temple, and the reason why devotees flock here to pray.
