Yatri Mitra, on patrol

Safe journey, memorable experience. A patrol vehicle that circulates between the places visitors actually go, so help, directions and straight answers are never far away.

What it is

A patrol, but for visitors

Yatri Mitra is a patrol vehicle run by the Department of Tourism, Mysuru. It works the way a police patrol works: rather than waiting at a desk for someone to find it, it circulates continuously between the places visitors gather, so that help is already nearby when it is needed.

Two trained Tourist Mithras travel in the vehicle. They are first responders in a medical, security or logistical emergency, and the rest of the time they answer the ordinary questions - where a place is, what it costs, when it opens, which bus goes there - with information that is checked rather than invented.

The service exists for a specific reason. At the Palace, the hill, the zoo and the two stations, visitors are routinely told by unauthorised touts that an attraction is closed, or that the entrance is somewhere else, and are led away and overcharged. A patrol that is visibly present, and that anyone can wave down, removes the opening those touts depend on.
